Niven Busch (April 26, 1903 – August 25, 1991) was an American novelist and screenwriter of movies such as the acclaimed The Postman Always Rings Twice. His novels included Duel in the Sun (1944) and California Street. He was married to actress Teresa Wright for ten years beginning in 1942.

Novelist and screenwriter, educated at Princeton University. Began as a writer for Time magazine and The New Yorker. In Hollywood from 1931, at Warner Brothers (1931-34; 1938-39), subsequently free-lance for other studios. Authored 14 novels of which "Duel in the Sun", the screen rights to which he sold to David O. Selznick, was the most famous. Left Hollywood in 1952 and later taught at the University of California.
