Rissi Palmer Family Life With Husband Bryan And Two Kids

Rissi Palmer family consists of four members. Rissi Palmer and her husband Bryan Stypmann have two kids both daughters.

She was the first African American to make it to the Country Music Charts in 20 long years.

Rissi is a strong advocate for the rights of people of color and marginalized communities, and she hasn’t stopped to get inspired by artists, activists, and writers and has equally shared positive hope among her listeners.

She has shared in interviews that she’s trying to become someone who uses his/her art and platform to say the unspoken truths, things that revolt and seek the solution – things that really matter. To honor her contribution, PBS has recently released a documentary called Rissi Palmer: Still Here, which showcases the journey of a Black woman in country music.

Her debut album was Rissi Palmer (2007), the songs of which charted Billboard’s Hot Country Songs.  Rissi sounds adept at both country singing and R&B singing. She has around 18K monthly listeners on Spotify and has released two other albums as well: Best Day Ever (2013) and Revival (2019), and an EP titled The Back Porch Sessions.

Rissi Palmer Husband

Rissi Palmer husband Bryan Stypmann is a global account manager at AMD. Bryan and Rissi tied their marital knot in 2010 after years of being in a relationship.

They were married the same day they were engaged, in a seemingly unprepared wedding.

Bryan is not a musician like his wife.

From his LinkedIn profile, we know Bryan did his BSEE & BSCPE, Electrical & Computer Engineering from North Carolina University and also has an MBA degree. He has worked with IBM, Motorola Semiconductor, Freescale Semiconductor and NXP Semiconductors before. Now, he works full-time at AMD as a Global Account Manager.

Bryan grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. His business background has been particularly helpful for his wife to manage her merch sales and other business and financial aspects of her shows, and also her backstage affairs.

Rissi has described her musical style as “Southern Soul.” She dropped out of college to follow her vocation. But, now with her long years of experience, as a teaching artist, she runs vocal performance and songwriting workshops for children to help them find their voice and style. Now her career highlight includes multiple performances at the Grand Ole Opry, at The White House and at the Lincoln Center.

She has toured extensively and has made multiple television appearances to share her story and passion, which have always been inspiring to the young generation of female musicians.

Rissi Palmer and Bryan Stypmann have two children. Both of them are daughters.

Nova Stypmann

Nova Stypmann is the second child of Rissi Palmer. She was born on June 4, 2019.

Rissi is very concerned about one’s roots and the need to preserve heritage and memories. In virtue of this, Rissi also hosts a radio show in recognition of the country artists of color and marginalized communities, unknown and largely ignored by the mainstream.

The list of guests who have appeared in her talk show includes Linda Martell, Miko Marks, Crystal Shawanda, Brittney Spencer, Darius Rucker, Kaia Kater, Rhiannon Giddens and many more. She was also featured in the CMT documentary Waiting in the Wings: African American in Country Music.

Rissi Palmer Parents

Rissi Palmer was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania on August 19, 1981, to parents Johnny Palmer and Donzella Palmer.

Johnny Palmers used to work as a manager for a retail shopping chain. Rissi grew up listening to the record collection of her father, which included musicians like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Chaka Khan, and Santana.

Rissi’s mother Donzella Palmer was an airline attendant for an airline. Donzella listened to various country and gospel songs. Her mother’s favorite Patsy Cline was a country singer too. Palmer’s mother died due to cancer when she was just 7 years old.

Rissi has said in an interview that, though not musicians, her parents played all kinds of music at their homes and it was one of the main reasons she picked up musical interest at an early age. Country music, R&B, gospel – Rissi’s childhood memories are filled with all kinds of music, but country music piqued her interest especially due to its storytelling appeal.

Now as one of the celebrated country artists, she suggests newcomers have an independent mindset, work hard, remember one’s roots, and be kind. The same virtue is seen in her own life.
