1	As a rear Admiral Halsey as commander of TF 16 Attacked many Japanese held island in the Pacific. ( Wake island, Marcus islands, and many others) He was also in command of TF (Task Force) 16 which is the Navy force that launched the Tokyo raids,( commanded by Lt. Colonel James Doolittle) Halsey became ComSoPac on Oct 18, 1942, which commanded all "Allied" forces South Pacific , until around May of 1943. During this time NovDec 1942 he was promoted to (Full Admiral) with Four Stars. He took command Task Force 3 (TF 3) in mid 1943. This was an unusual command as he shared it with Admiral Spruance. under Halsey it was known as TF 3, under Spruance it was TF 5. The ships overall remained the same. Halsey was also at the start of WWII one of very few US Admirals who were also Pilots, earning his wings at age 52.
2	Admiral William F Halsey was not a 5 star Admiral (Fleet Admiral) while on active duty during WWII. He received his fifth star in Dec 1945, he retired from the US Navy in 1947.
